SL @ AlwaysOn / Club Penguin

Now that I’ve had my eyelids cut open again, I think I’m going to start looking and discussing a few more virtual worlds (VWs) again. It’s been about a year since I’ve actually tried keeping up on them. Though ashamed to say it, I pretty much got sick of virtual worlds for the longest time. Working with one for so long that didn’t work with such bad management really put me off of the the whole thing. However, I think it’s time to start again so I’ll be talking a lot about them as I find stuff I like.

This video from Beef.Tv is a really great video of Phillip Rosedale, the founder of Linden Labs, at the AlwaysOn Conference discussing media in Second Life as well as marketing. Unlike many other VWs second life doesn’t run on company investment, but community investment. This brings good news back to those who have been looking for the escape pods due to the flood of media lately with titles about second life losing ground due to larger businesses leaving.

In some other news, it seems that Disney is reaching out again for more clients. They’re recently purchased Club Penguin, a MMO aimed at pre-teens, for $350 million, with an additional $350 million more by the end of 2009. This comes as a shock to at least myself given that Disney already runs one ’successful’ MMO known as Virtual Magic Kingdom. With the recent addition this means that Disney now holds strong loyalty with both teen and pre-teen crowds, which is surely where they want to be standing with the increasing variety in available VMs.

Movable Type 4.0 Beta

In light of my recent circumstances, I have even more time on my hands (Though I also have more to do) I’ve decided to upgrade my blogging system from Movable Type 3.2 to Movable Type 4.0. I did this for two reasons: 1) It has more options and better features and 2) It has a lot more buttons to play with.

However, I’m finding some of the things to be making me click a few extra times to get where I want to go compared to it’s earlier counterpart. I’m sure I’ll get used to it though. I’ve also moved the blog to the root site so there is no longer a need to add /blog to the URL, www.shirtninja.net will take you where you want to go. The /blog site will remain up until I’m sure that everything is hunky dorey on this new install, but make sure to update your feeds because there won’t be any more updates on that one. On that note, If anybody spots any dead links or bugs of any kind make sure to let me know as I’m sure things will make a habit of giving me a hard time.

Review: I Know Who Killed Me

I’m not even going to bother using a format for this movie because I know who killed me is horrible. I honestly think that the entire staff, not just Lohan, must have been on drugs while making it.

In short, the story is about Lohan (Aubrey) being a suburban girl in high school who loves writing. She.goes missing then is found again with a missing leg and hand, assumed to have been cut off by a psycho who did the same thing to a girl the week before. However, when she’s found she thinks that she is a girl named Dakota. The story goes really, really slow with her trying to prove she’s not Aubrey. The FBI reads a story Aubrey wrote on her laptop, and it’s similar to the events now so they think she is making it all up. The last 20 minutes of the movie Dakota comes to the father about him switching babies with a crack whore (Dakota’s mother) and that Aubrey is still out there and the two girls have a link where they feel each other’s pain. They go to where she thinks the psycho is, she was right and there is two of them. End of story.

So as I said, the story was really slow. Half of the movie was Lohan attempting to be ’sexy’ as Dakota was supposed to have been an exotic dancer. She sucks, and that’s pathetic because at this part in the movie she had all of her limps and I’ve still seen paraplegics with better movies. Lohan is attractive and all, but this made her look horrible. The movie then followed up with a sex scene and a crying scene, both of which could have been done better by a 1st grader dressed as a tomato. The rest of the movie was filled with about 35 minutes of scenes with her cutting her fingers off. It was lovely, but not quite as bad as the strip show she put on earlier.

I’m honestly disappointed, but I should have seen it coming. With Lohan’s recently off screen actions it’s impossible for her to still be a good actress. However when reading the description I thought the plot might just hold up enough to make it watchable, but it didn’t. It might have been better if they didn’t waste so much time and rush the entire plot into the last 20 minutes, but I suppose that would involve a little better acting skill.

To end on a positive note though, there was one great scene. After she had her parts removed and replaced with prosthetic parts and go to physiotherapy and can you guess who the doctor there was? It was CRAB MAN! Yeah, Eddie Steeples who plays Darnell Turner on My Name Is Earl was her doctor. Near the end of the scene she thanks him for calling her Dakota and not Aubrey and I was just wishing she had said “Thanks Crab Man” instead of just thanks.

There was also a scene where they show Jessica Rose (aka LonelyGirl15) in a classroom listening to Aubrey read one of her stories. No wonder the LG15 series has been so lame lately, she’s been off making movies! I’m sure this must be ‘the ceremony’ that they were trying to force Bree to do in the series, because having to be part of such a bad movie is definitely something to run from.
