Movie: Happily N’Ever After (Review)
Happily N’Ever After
Decent movie, though with the recent release of the third Shrek movie it makes me wonder who came up with the idea of the bad guys taking over first. Oh well.. There were a lot of points where the older audience will pick up on things. For example, there was a part where the evil step mother was telling Cinderella what she has to do before going to the ball and she said “Shampoo the cat, whiten the tub, give the carriage a lube job” then the evil step sisters giggle. I don’t think many kids will get that. Unfortunately, the slight humor that is shown in the first 15 minutes of the movie quickly fades and you forget that the movie was any good by the end.
However, a notable part that I found entertaining was a discussion between Rumplestiltskin and the evil step mother. Rump was trying to convince her to let him be the evil sidekick and she asks him why he thinks he’s evil to which he replies “I stole a baby! What’s worse than stealing a baby?!” and I burst out laughing. Another note that was funny is that The Wizard (George Carlin) went on vacation to go golfing. For those who know of Carlin’s comedy routines, he often insults golfing and talks about how stupid it is. So that’s a pretty notable point for fans out there.
Overall the movie started off good, but then quickly became dull and uninteresting. It seems that the ‘Prince charming’ is an idiot and they all end up Happily Ever After, which seems ot be directly copying the characteristics of it’s better counter part in the genre, Shrek. Though the movie has a number of famous names associated with it, I don’t feel that the plot held it’s own and you’d be better off watching Mike Myers discuss his onion theory on ogres again.
Final: 5/10
