Movie: Hairspray (Review)
I have to be completely honest, Hairspray scared me a little. First off it’s a musical, which always puts me on edge because chances are that 98% of the songs are going to suck, the other 10% not really good but will get stuck in your head. But I figured with so many recognizable names in this I could check it out and I can’t really say I’m disappointed.
The first fact that stood out here was John Travolta in drag. I mean wtf? I knew this was coming but the was expecting him to act like an actor dressed in drag, but he seemed to play an overweight woman a little too well for my taste. The image of him dancing in a fat suit wearing hot pink pumps is going to be burned into my mind for life now. The second thing that scared the hell out of me was how tall Penny Pingleton (Amanda Bynes) was in this movie, she towered over everybody else. According to IMDB, she’s only 5′7″ which means she must have been wearing at least 6″ heals to be able to look eye to eye with Travolta. DAMN.
The plot was good, I laughed at some of the ‘negro day’ jokes made at the beginning of the movie. Yeah I know if you’re reading this you might think it’s wrong, but watch the movie and you’ll forgive me. And on that note I’m done, I really don’t want to give away the exact details of the movie (aka I don’t want to type out a full review, duh!). I’ll just say it was good and for you to go watch it, even if just to be able to say “wtf? when you see people like Christopher Walken singing.
