40 minutes
“Your order is guaranteed to be there within 40 minutes or it is free.” They should change it to “your order is guaranteed to be there within 40 minutes or it is late.”
Now it is time my late pizza delivery guy story.
This story takes place long, long ago back in March on a Saturday around 8pm. I ordered my pizza online as I always do, and wait for the pizza guy to show up. Since it’s just down the street, any more than 20 minutes is strange. Around the 35 minute mark I called them to check where it was, and they said it’s on its way.
The pizza guy eventually got here and buzzed my buzzer (which comes as phone call) and it has been 47 minutes. He handed me my pizzas and told me the price, and I told him the time. His reply was “So?” Kind of thrown back by this I said “It’s more than 40 minutes, I get it for free”. At this point he started telling me off and giving me some sob story about his ex-wife. Now I’m a caring guy and all (ok I’m not really) but pizza is pizza. It’s not like he was saving his wife from a speeding train on way here. So I said I wasn’t going to pay for a late pizza and he started yelling and telling me to give him the pizzas back. I told him he could have them back, but I’d be talking to the owner tomorrow have him fired.
He calmed down, told me to keep the pizzas but wanted at least a tip. I told him “Learn to show up on time”. He started swearing again and I closed the door. It was really good pizza.
