New Site: Player Versus!

Posted By Jeff On September 2, 2011 @ 6:18 am

I didn’t lie, this post is sooner than the gap between the last posts. Sort of.

I come to you today to announce Player Versus, a World of Warcraft / Gaming blog. Unlike I R Blogging this will be a more dedicated blog to a subject, where as currently I R Blogging is just whatever I want to talk about. We do this not to make you subscribe or read another page, but to direct more of a focus. Some may care about my gaming views, but couldn’t care less about everything else.

In the near future (possibly tomorrow) I’ll also be putting up some posts on 122 Review, our blog where we give things either 122 minutes (Two hours, Two Minutes) of our time, or a 122 variant (such as 122 pages of a book). Unfortunately, it died pretty quickly when it was first launched. However, we have some half-written posts that should get the chance to see the light (even if they go unread). I encourage you to keep an eye out there.

I’ll also be attempting to update the sites to post on My Twitter account when a new post is published. Following me there may be the best bet if you don’t feel like subscribing to all the other sites.

Fret not about I R Blogging, it will still be used for posts that don’t fit elsewhere. It will likely be about updates that we have or rants. If you like that, then stay tuned, because I’m sure something will provoke another rant.

Extended Free Time

Posted By Jeff On June 27, 2011 @ 7:23 pm

I’m almost ashamed to be posting this post, given my last post. Everything was moved over, as planned, and the whole Shirt Ninja Network is set up. Unfortunately, I also became fairly busy to the point I wasn’t able to update. However, times have changed yet again and I have a few weeks of absolutely nothing to do, which I can decide what I’m doing and get everything back in order. One of the things that I’d like to get back in order is this blog.

For those of you that follow me on Twitter (anybody?), I constantly update things I’ve found around the web with just a link. I’m planning on focusing a little more on content, and expanding that here. As well, I’d like to get back to writing reviews of sorts.

Keep an eye out, because I will be posting more content here in due time..this time.

Site Update: 3.0

Posted By Jeff On June 29, 2010 @ 12:38 am

Hey folks, slighly news today that may or may not affect you. Possibly the later. The most interesting stuff is at the bottom. End game is that it should allow you to see more content, quicker.

Right now, everything that is hosted on IRBlogging is now becoming linked. Most of the individual WordPress blogs are being merged to one 3.0 database to make everything run smoother on the backend (and easier for authors to access). This could mean some broken links and missing images during the conversion. We’ll be fixing those as we come across them. Feel free to send off an email to bugs [at] irblogging.com if you find some. It would be greatly appreciated.

BIGGER NEWS: We’ve decided to take the dormant Shirtninja.net and turn it into The ShirtNinja Network. It will serve as a Hub for all of our now and future hostees, as well as any partner sites we may have (though unlikely) in the future.
Assuming that I can do it, I’d like to also keep it updated to show the most recent news that comes through the network all in one spot, to save you from jumping around to look for updates.

This way IRB can focus on being IRB, and not try to be the jack of all trades site it’s been trying to be.

SNN is very shoddy right now, as I’m just trying to fill out some of the content blocks I’ll work on it more over the weekend to make it prettier, and make the content better. Give it a look next week. I’ll throw out a tweet when it looks a bit better. Keep an eye out there as well if you’re interested in some free hosting.

That’s it for now, I said I’d post, here it is. Ta Da!

Motorola Milestone Follow up

Posted By Jeff On March 28, 2010 @ 2:30 am

Check out my first impressions of the Telus Motorola Milestone.

It’s been about a month or so since getting the Milestone, and it’s treating me pretty well still. I plan on doing some posts about some applications I have going in the upcoming week hopefully, so keep an eye out.

Since the previous posts, some things have changed:
1) The Milestone has been rooted (somewhat). The bootloader is still locked, but root/super user access is available. Hopefully with the release of 2.1 in the near future it will change to a full root. For instructions on how to root your telus milestone, click the link.

2) Paid apps are now available in Canada. No word yet on when Canadian developers will be able to sell their apps, but that can be expected. No more need to pirate them, makes me feel like less of a cheapskate.

3) Hardware is still holding up. I had a rough patch after unlocking it and updating it to support live wallpapers when I installed Launcher 2. I’ve changed to Helix, and since had no lag what-so-ever. Would highly recommend it.

4) CTIA makes me want an HTC EVO when Sprint releases it. Don’t judge me!

Summary: My phone is still the best compared to those iPhonies and Blackberry newbs I know, so I’m happy.

On an unrelated note, IRBlogging now has a Facebook Page and it’s own Twitter page. We’ll be posting quick updates, surveys and (if it hits me) contests exclusively for those followers. We’d be much obliged for your support.

That’s it, Have a good Sunday.

IRB: Site reconstruction

Posted By Jeff On January 28, 2009 @ 10:08 pm

Hey guys, I’m going to be redoing I R Blogging over the next week or so to make it better. Some of the changes that are going to happen involve:
A) A new layout: The one we have is falling apart and being held together with plugins and duct tape.
B) Complete removal of plugins and addons: We’re going to start fresh. I’m going to take out anything that might be causing the site to run slow, or be unorganized. This includes revamping the search tool to allow me to see exactly what you guys want and target posts better to what you want to read
C) Retagging: I’m going to try to make my way through every post on the blog and retag it. This will enable you to find related posts quicker and faster.
D) New logo: It’s been almost a year and we still don’t have one. I’ll try to fix this, if you have any ideas feel free to shoot me an email.

Thanks for hanging in there, Jeff.

How to clean Fuitadnet Fungus

Posted By Jeff On August 13, 2008 @ 12:57 pm

For those loyal readers, you’ll know I changed my hosting provider from Fuitadnet to GoDaddy a few months back because Fuitadnet, in short, is pathetic. They just weren’t very organized. The only catch here is, I should still have hosting open at Fuitadnet.

“WTF?!” I’m sure you’re all saying. Well in May, they had already taken the payment for the hosting portion of my site for the 6 six months, so when I took my domain it should have just left he hosting floating in limbo until I call them and cancel that, which I didn’t. I called them today to see if anybody could find out how to access my hosting account, as I’m going to get the last final backup of it (hopefully) then cancel it. They can’t find it.

I gave them the domain name, I gave them my account number, my payment confirmation, my last name, my address: Nada. This leads me back to the idea of “they just weren’t very organized”. They told me to forward the payment invoice to them and they’d give me a call in 24-48 hours. I’m going to call when I get home tomorrow morning after work. I also have trouble ticket numbers which I’m hoping they could look up. All I want is the files I paid for (since they should still have them in their database for 3 months) is that so much to ask that I get what you charged me for?

Snorbufar: The Site

Posted By Jeff On August 5, 2008 @ 2:46 pm

Through pressure from GoDaddy (and just plain good timing) I decided today to open SnorBuFar, another site created by yours truely.

As said in the previous post referring to this, SnorBuFar is randomness at it’s finest and that is what the site is. Instead of be spewing out random thoughts that are in my head and whatever links I happen to think are cool that I’m surfing at the time here (and making this look far too much like a journal) I’ll put them over there. This site will remain for the logical stuff that I actually think two seconds about before posting.

Snorbufar will be similar to some other ‘micro blogging’ sites, but the difference is I’m going to open this to the public. Whoever wants to sign up can do so, and post what they wish (with a few exceptions listed in the FAQs). There is no organization, I don’t care what you post, just whatever needs to leave your head and go on the internet it’s there. Hopefully, this will become a huge mess of links, thoughts and other. The bigger the mess, the better.

So feel free to check it out and give it a go, I’ll be harassing people to try it for awhile.

Firef.ly

Posted By Jeff On August 5, 2008 @ 5:29 am

Firef.ly is a new service currently in beta created by Betaworks that turns any of your sites into a chat room. Before you say that you’ve seen this before listen here: There is no downloads. That’s right, two lines of code thrown into the footer of my coding (totally painless) and my site has now become it’s own chat room.

If you have a look at the bottom right of your screen, you should see a floating box with # Here, # Chatting, Start Chatting. Click start and the screen gets sort of an ‘overlay’ thing going. You can still scroll and look at whatever is on the site, but you can also move your mouse around and start typing. Where ever you type, it will create a little chat bubble that anybody else on the site can see.

Some of the extra features that look to be put in are the choice of pre-loaded cursors (because arrows are boring) and what looks to be the option to use an image of your own choosing (that doesn’t seem to work yet or I can’t figure out). There is also a twitter option to have certain parts of the convo go to twitter (again can’t get it to work). What IS working though is the time line feature. this allows you to scroll along the site’s time line and check out conversations from the past, which are conveniently marked with little white lines, turning the chat room into a nice form of bulletin board as well.

I really hope this service lasts, it seems to hold a lot of promise. What they really need now is to get a forum/blog going so we have some way to help them perfect this. They do have a blog, and it’s even listed at the bottom of the main page, I’m a tard. Thanks Andy. Anyway, check it out because it’s awesome. Remember to leave a message there when you check it out, I’ll be sure to see it. ;)

Technorati update

Posted By Jeff On August 4, 2008 @ 1:13 pm

*feel free to ignore this*
I’ve had irblogging for a few months now, figure it’s about time I go around the net and update some of the trackers. First on the list: Technorati.
