  • 5 reasons I want to get more blog hits

    Date: 2007.09.12 | Posted by | Category: Blogging | Response: 0

I’ve been reading a lot of websites discussing how to get more visitors for your blog. The most recent one I’ve read is located at ProBlogger.net titled 8 Reasons Why Lists are Good for Getting Traffic to your Blog. Taking the advice given there, it’s time to make a list. Here are 5 reasons I want to get more blog hits.

    1. Acknowledgment. Knowing that somebody enjoys my writing brings a good feeling out (and yes, it burns a little but is totally worth it)

    2. The readers deserve something good. Many of my posts might be horribly written, but the fact that they are genuine should appeal to people more than the corporate propaganda that is now considered as ‘blogging’.

    3. So people think I’m awesome and super-cool. I have toads and three egos at home to feed, can you really blame me? I wanna be famous.

    4. To improve my writing skills. If I write 1 post or 100 posts it won’t improve my abilities unless somebody is there to give me some CC and tell me what I could work on to make better. More people reading means more people to tell me what I’ve done wrong.

    5. Profit. I put this last because an end goal of making ‘big bucks’ from this almost makes me sick to my stomach. I do this because I enjoy it, as much as I would like to make a profit from this, I’d rather give the readers something to enjoy first.

  • Am I really blogging for apples?

    Date: 2007.09.05 | Posted by | Category: Blogging | Response: 1

In case it hasn’t become completely apparent, I’ve been doing a lot of work lately on improving not only ShirtNinja.net’s layout but the content as well. It does have a lot to do with having more ‘free time’ on my hands and people not wanting me to spam them with random links and messages anymore, but it also has to do with my love of blogging and the thought of people reading it.

I’ve come across a few articles mentioning that blogging has become a new extension of a resume and I have to agree with them to some extent. Those who are hardcore into blogging and have a large audience are easily making a living off ads. But as for bloggers such as myself who have little to no audience I wouldn’t say this would prove to be much of a resume. It’s a fabulous concept though, and if I ever get into a position where I’m seen as anything more than a numbered customer service agent or retail clerk I’d like to think my writing abilities would count for something positive.

The articles discuss some of the characteristics that most bloggers possess that are often viewed as good qualities by employers. So if you’re a blogger and unable to fill up your resume, check out these articles.

  • But my Mom doesn't have a basement

Date: 2007.08.25 | Posted by | Category: Blogging, Entertainment Misc | Response: 0

Recently, a writer by the name of Ben Wallace commented to a CNN interviewer saying in regards to unfavorable comments from bloggers “I mean, they all live in their mom’s basement anyway, so what difference does that make?”, I’ve watched it a few times now and honestly find it pretty funny, though also insulting at the same time. I don’t consider myself to be a talented blogger, though I’m not exactly the worst of it either (however lately I must admit, my posts have been pretty whiny). But a comment like that shows not only disrespect to millions of people worldwide, but complete and utter ignorance of the progression of media. It is quite obvious that blogging is quickly overtaking all tradition media outlets, as is being displayed by even the largest organizations. There is a reason why these foolish older people should be Old Yeller’d.

  • Movable Type 4.0 Beta

    Date: 2007.08.03 | Posted by | Category: Site Related | Response: 0

In light of my recent circumstances, I have even more time on my hands (Though I also have more to do) I’ve decided to upgrade my blogging system from Movable Type 3.2 to Movable Type 4.0. I did this for two reasons: 1) It has more options and better features and 2) It has a lot more buttons to play with.

However, I’m finding some of the things to be making me click a few extra times to get where I want to go compared to it’s earlier counterpart. I’m sure I’ll get used to it though. I’ve also moved the blog to the root site so there is no longer a need to add /blog to the URL, www.shirtninja.net will take you where you want to go. The /blog site will remain up until I’m sure that everything is hunky dorey on this new install, but make sure to update your feeds because there won’t be any more updates on that one. On that note, If anybody spots any dead links or bugs of any kind make sure to let me know as I’m sure things will make a habit of giving me a hard time.

    No solution
    Strong undertow

    Quite unfair
    Quite a pair
    No box office

Ok so the news is simply I’m going to start rotating between blogging and video blogging on youtube. As much fun as keeping a normal blog is, there are certain limitations. Because of that, there are things that you need actions for, thus where the Vlog comes in. So I’ll rotate between the two, I’ll post here if I do one so you don’t have to look (I know, it’s like uber hard and all). Anyway, through up a crappy one. I just had to mock lonelygirl15, she’s retarded. Anyway, check it out.

  • Large award goes to…

    Date: 2004.08.12 | Posted by | Category: Blogging | Response: 0

OK, first off, I have a large “Screw You” award to hand out. This goes to all those parents and guardians and choose to read their child’s chatlogs, blogs, ect. It just seems to me like a total invasion of privacy. How can you expect your kids to trust you if you don’t trust them? Now I can understand it if there is a reason to distrust them. For example, if they were already caught building a bomb in the basement, well that’s a pretty significant reason to monitor them online. However, if they were caught looking at porn or saying the dreaded “f word” when you walked by, it’s not a good reason to take away they’re rights to freedom of speech.

By now, I’m sure there will be readers thinking “What the hell does this guy know about kids? I can do whatever the hell I want to.” Well sorry to tell you dear reader, you can’t. If you know it or not, it is possible for your kids to hate you. And you not letting them live, well that’s pretty good grounds to do so I think.

If your kids have something they want to tell you, they will. If they started a blog, they’ll probabally show it to you. That’s the only time they want you looking at it, until they tell you to look at it again. Just because you know it’s there doesn’t mean that you have to read it every update. There is a good chance that a child will blog about you, and there is about a 50% chance that it will be negitive. Does this make you even more suspecting of your kids? Well it shouldn’t. Any intelligent person should already know that their kid is probabally saying something about them to one of their friends anyway, it’s normal, and it’s not hurting you if you don’t know. This brings me to the Basis of All Blogs.

Basically the idea behind all blogs is the idea that everybody can read it, they may be reading, but in reality they’re not reading it. Bloggers write something to be read. Anybody can read it, all they have to do is go to the address. The blogger doesn’t know who did an who didn’t read it because comments aren’t required. But when you look at the whole of the internet, there is little chance that the webpage address will go very far, and therefore won’t be read by many.

Why, you may ask, do bloggers even bother then? Well, it’s because it’s a release of emotions and thoughts. Blogs give you something that a journal or diary can’t, the thought that other people can know what you think. People often say that writing something in a diary can get it off your chest. However from personal experience, I find this just can’t do what blogging does. When you write something on paper and hide it under your pillow, you’re still the only one who has those feelings and thoughts as far as you know. When you blog, other people can feel those things and think those thoughts, evne if they actually don’t. That goes back to the fact that they aren’t reading it. But the blogger will still think that they are, therefore releasing any emotions that remain tied to the words, which would stay tied if in a diary.

Confused yet? Oh good, then I’m on the right track. Now back to your children. Kids go through one hell of alot of changes before they become an adult, and obviously, it’s not easy. They easiest thing to do is to tell somebody, but that can be embarrassing. So why not tell everybody without needing telling anybody? Seems like an easy thing to do, and it is. Let the emotions fly, doesn’t matter where to, but away. Sure they may feel that the internet becomes their own security blanket to cry on, but what harm can it do?

Now do I have you worried yet? So you’re thinking that I’m telling you to just let your kids tell their life story online to anybody willing to read it, right? Well, not totally. You have to take into consideration the vast galaxy that is the internet. You may think that if your child says something that some guy will come pick her up at school and you’ll have one less mouth to feed. If only, right? Well set some basic, general rules for your kids, which they would probabally already think of themselves, and they’ll be just fine. For example, tell them to avoid saying the name of a city, school, mall, etc. Tell them just to say something like “at my school” instead of “at Lakewood High” or “At Joe’s Diner”. And avoid last names. First names are fine, unless for some strange reason everybody else on the planet with the same name dies; then we have a larger problem.

So there, that’s all I’m going to ramble about for now on this. For the conclusion to this topic though, I’m simply going to say this: Trust your kids, there is a good chance that they know what they’re doing because I can bet money that they’re smarter then you are. Yes, they ARE smarter then you are. So sit back, relax and put your feet up. Let them screw up and you can say “I told you so” when they come to you for help, because everybody likes saying that.

For those still reading, check out this article, which is how all this started.

Now as for my life: I’m leaving tomarrow to go to Ontario. Bus takes off around 6, so I’ll show up at 5 or so. I’m kind of worried about it all though, to be honest. I have 4 connecting tickets (A-B, B-C, C-D, D-E). When I called the bus station, they told me I was changing buses at B and D. When I was talking to the company, on their hotline, They said I only changed at D. So what’s with C then? I don’t know. Plus there is no times on the tickets, or bus numbers or anything. What organization. Just a recommendation, take a train or fly if you’re going anywhere. Oh well, it should be fun.

And I hate Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic. It’s so addicting that I’ve spend teh last 3 days playing it and haven’t picked up my munchies yet or packed my carry-on bag, which I was going to do today. Damn Wookie.
    That is all.

So have you heard? There is another public sex scandal, and it involves blogs. What do you mean you haven’t heard of it? Ok, well sit down and I’ll tell you about it then.

It all started with a woman named Jessica Cutler. She worked in more ways then one for Mike DeWine, the conservative GOP senator from Ohio. Her legal profession was sorting mail for $25K a year. However, this little one kept a blog.
In this blog she talked about having sexual relations with people of high power for money. Yes, this is known as prostitution. So, her blog was found, and she lost her job. Now she didn’t lose her job for sleeping with the boss, we all know that is common practice now a days, she got fired for misusing a government computer to publish in this blog.

So how that the shit has hit the fan about her sleeping with men of higher power, the press is eating this up like candy-flavored condoms. She is appearing on TV shows, the news in on the radio and she is simply becoming the next Monica Lewinski. And from what I read in an article from the New York Post, she has already been offered to have her story published.

So what does this show? Well, “To beat the man, you have to sleep with the man” seems to fit for me.

  • Movable Type 3.0

Date: 2004.05.14 | Posted by | Category: Blogging, Site Related | Response: 0

Well, I’m sitting here playing around with Movable Type 3.0D. Personally, I don’t seem to think it any higher then 2.6. To be honest 2.6 looks better too. I prefer the darker colors, because they’re easier on the eyes. The new one is brighter and distracting, not my taste. They just added more colors and made it so you have to click fewer buttons. Whoop Di Do. I know that I’m sticking with 2.6 for Blogging for Apples, though I’ll leave 3.0 up on my server just because I can. If you want to have a look at it, comment and I’ll email you the log-in info.

    Edit:
OK, maybe I was harsh. There is some more stuff on this, but it’s nothing drastic that will make me want to give up my old, reliable, unrestricted 2.6. For example, I can control comments, and force approval on them. Not bad if you get spammed by comments. I can also say that you need a TypeKey (Movable Type registration) to be able to comment. Well that’s a big hell no. If I wanted that, I would have my blog on Movable Type’s server.

It seems to me that Movable Type is basically trying to form a community of paying customers that will host the blogs on their own server. In other words, you’re paying them for nothing more then the name and 2 new (worthless) additions. It’s not worth it in my eyes.

However, I will give Movable Type a “Nice Try” on this. Though I’m not paying, and I doubt that everybody else will either when there are other free opportunities out there.
