I just want to start by saying Will Smith, you suck. The movie started off good: a drunk asshole of a superhero. He played that really well, almost too well. But then he went to jail and became all goody-goody. Now before anything starts saying “Yes Jeff, but you knew that would happen” they just did a really bad job at it.

Actually, on second thought I’m not even going to bother writing a full review of this movie. The explanations that the movie gave for a lot of the stuff was just plain stupid. If it wasn’t for the drunk references at the beginning this movie would have been a total flop, instead of just bad.
    Score: 4/10

  • Movie: Mr.Woodcock (Review)

    Date: 2007.10.10 | Posted by | Category: Movies / TV / Books | Response: 1

    Title: Mr.Woodcock
    Genre: Comedy

Mr.WoodcockI have to say before the movie even started I thought the movie was funny. I mean with a name like Woodcock and having a mind in the gutter how could you not? As for the movie itself Billy Bob Thornton continues to be a very entertaining man…and a total dick (thus Woodcock becomes even funnier!). Combine that with Seann William Scott (Stifler from American Pie <3) and this movie is pure gold. This is the story of an asshole gym teacher and a kid who grows up and writes a book about self-esteem and ‘letting go’ of the past then comes back to find out that the same gym teacher is back home nailing his mom. That’s just good writing.

This is the kind of movies that true comedy lovers live for, without having to sit through the “romantic-” parts of the movie. This is right up there with Badder Santa, and is great.

Final: 9/10 “You must like getting spanked, Farley. I guess it runs in the family”

  • Movie: The Heartbreak Kid (2007) Review

    Date: 2007.10.07 | Posted by | Category: Movies / TV / Books | Response: 2

The movie The Heartbreak Kid wasn’t that bad, I had some ‘LOL’ moments but it’s not some of Ben Stiller’s best work. Though it had a good plot for a romantic-comedy, it was still very predictable. A man marries somebody, meets somebody on his honeymoon that’s better, she finds out, he gets in a lot of trouble.

The Heartbreak KidThis might just be personal opinion here but I think I’m just about sick of the romantic-comedy genre, I’d like some good comedies back please and thanks. Despite my growing unhappiness with the genre, this movie did hold up on both the romantic and the comedy factors and proved to be a worth-watching film. I’d recommend going to see it in theaters for the the Ben Stiller fan (or if you want to see nudity on the big screen, because that’s there too)

Final: 6.5/10 “My son found your panties on the sidewalk and we’ve been talking about you all week.”

What threw me off was that Ben Stiller had gray hair and was acting like he was 40. I’m a fan of some older stuff, such as Zoolander, so seeing him being old throw me off. What worries me though is that as he’s getting older the quality of his movies are going down hill. The flare just seems to be burning out, not quite gone yet, but getting there. I’d like to see him come out with something in the near future living up to his humorous reputation, but can’t see it happening.

  • Movie: Good Luck Chuck Review

    Date: 2007.10.06 | Posted by | Category: Movies / TV / Books | Response: 1

Good Luck ChuckI’m not sure if I liked this movie or not. Good Luck Chuck didn’t exactly have a great plot, and thus didn’t allow the actors to portray good characters. They came off very stale which lead to the predictable ending. There were ‘funny’ parts that made me laugh, but it was more of the “ha, she ran into a pole” funny than anything that was thought through. The plot wasn’t really really bad, but it wasn’t really really good; It was a movie. I don’t think it really hit the mark that I was looking for, but I wouldn’t ask for my money back.

Final: 4/10 “Do you like it when I eat your penguin ass?”

I do ask, however, that Jessica Alba start getting better roles. Honestly, I can say that when I first saw her in Dark Angel I thought she was amazing. But since then the last good thing she’s done is Sin City in 2005, where she played a stripper. Since then all of her roles have been quite poorly done (Invisible Woman included) and I feel that all she is doing is proving that her only talent is being eye candy. Lets get this girl acting a bit, or at least get her in playboy in the near future.

  • Movie: Resident Evil: Extinction (Review)

    Date: 2007.09.29 | Posted by | Category: Movies / TV / Books | Response: 0

I have to say I’m not happy with Resident Evil: Extinction. The first Resident Evil was pretty good, Resident Evil: Apocalypse was good (maybe just because of the link to Toronto) and had a lot of elements from the games but this one? This sucked.

Resident Evil stillThe plot has gotten old, they’re killing zombies. Now Alice (Jovovich) has superpowers to kill zombies, this is lame. The movie started with nothing and ended with nothing. The ‘cliffhanger’ that they put and the end doesn’t make me want to see the next film but instead go ask for my money back from the previous. To add insult to injury, the fight scenes were few and far between and when they were present weren’t worth watching the pathetic acting to get there.

There may have been some nice partial-nudity (which always earns itself 1 star if the actress is hot) but I wouldn’t recommend this movie, especially for those who still admire the Resident Evil series. Don’t waste your money, do something better.

Total: 4/10 Brains, the movie hurt my brains.

  • Movie: Interview (Review)

    Date: 2007.09.06 | Posted by | Category: Movies / TV / Books | Response: 0

Sticking with drama reviews (x), lets have a look at Interview.

To spice things up, lets have a look at the actors before we get into the plot details. Going into this movie I was expecting to see Steve Buscemi be funny. When I try to make a note of where I know him from some of the first movies that come to mind are Mr.Deeds and Armageddon, both of which he played a fool. This role however wasn’t funny and because I haven’t seen enough of his work it came off as a change for me to see him in such a serious position. Not to let my ignorance take from his performance, he was a very believable journalist.
Review: Interview I’m ashamed to say on that same point that I’ve only seen Sienna Miller once previously in Stardust as a minor character so I can not give much say on her abilities there. As for her role as an actress in this film I don’t feel it leaves much to say that an actress should be able to portray an actress fairly well.

That brings us to the plot, which I’m going to attempt to write without spoiling. Pierre (Buscemi), a political journalist, is forced by his editor to interview the leading soap opera actress Katya (Miller). After getting off on the wrong foot when Katya shows up over an hour late, Pierre calls off the interview and leaves only to end up needing her aid after hitting his head. The two then conduct a very social, unprofessional interview throughout the night questioning each other on very personal subjects. As both characters are found to be ‘not all there’ and neither living the life the other expected, the movie ends on a twist that the viewers didn’t see coming.

That’s about all I really want to say about the movie, as I think it would be best if I didn’t spoil too much of it. The movie is simply very well done and entertaining. Unlike many recent films where multiple locations and scenarios are needed to advance the plot, this movie focuses on one instance that is played by strong enough actors to carry the movie through to the end without ‘beating a dead horse’; an admirable quality from any director that can pull it off as nicely as was done here.

Final: 8/10 “You have to change that ringtone.”

  • Movie: Daddy's Little Girls (Review

    Date: 2007.09.03 | Posted by | Category: Movies / TV / Books | Response: 0

daddyslittlegirls.pngI sat through Daddy’s Little Girls, though not really my genre, and didn’t look at the clock or get up to get a drink and any point during the movie. That’s saying a lot since I get bored half way through most movies and wonder what else is going on. The story is the typical ‘good person in a bad place cleans up the neighborhood from drug dealers’. I’ve seen this before and it’s still a good plot. The actors had good chemistry and the plot came to a clean end wrapped in a pretty bow. I finished the movie with a good feeling knowing that if you work hard to do something good you’ll make things better. I think that’s a pretty good feeling and this a pretty good movie.

Total: 8/10 Hugs and rainbows for all!

However, I’m truly upset with some of the reviews I’ve seen for this movie. Right now IMBD has it down as 3.1/10, Rotten Tomatoes has it at 24% and thus “Rotten”. Today’s movie critics are becoming cynical bastards. It’s rare that you see a ‘feel good’ film with a decent rating anymore, it’s always the movies where the character suffers and ends up worse off in that end that are getting top spots. Well fuck you critics, feel good movies should be getting top spots because people should be feeling good. In a world where being the bigger asshole gets you further in life it’s good to have hope. So yeah, fuck you all.

  • Movie: Rise (Review)

    Date: 2007.09.01 | Posted by | Category: Movies / TV / Books | Response: 0

I’m honestly in question about the integrity of writers after watching Rise (not that I wasn’t in question of most writers before). I can picture writers sitting around and having this conversation:

Writer 1: “Lets write a movie about a girl who becomes a vampire but wants to be good and kill the bad vampires.”

Writer 2: “We just watched a movie that did that about an hour ago.”
Writer 1: “Yeah but it was awesome.”
Writer 2: “Good point, open up a new word document.”

That being said, I really can’t give it any point for coming up with a good plot. As far as the acting goes…well Lucy Liu showed a lot of ass, does that count? It wasn’t bad though, it was just more of a ‘meh, still doesn’t make the movie not suck’ thing. Lucy Liu is attractive, don’t get me wrong but watching her gnaw on a dead homeless man’s arm really isn’t a turn on for me.

I don’t know what else to say about this movie, it’s just blood and ass with a weak plot thrown in. At least they tried though right?

Total: 5.5/10 I’ll have a glass of 1968 Oriental with a side of prostitute, hold the STDs.

  • Movie: Grindhouse: Planet Terror (Review)

    Date: 2007.08.27 | Posted by | Category: Movies / TV / Books | Response: 1

This was awesome. Firstly just the style of it as a whole with the previews and film scratches was fantastic, it really set a good theme for the movie. I loved the fact that they used old-style effects for this entire movie. Honestly, if they had taken this same plot with the same actors and tried to make it ‘modern’ as far as effects and everything goes it wouldn’t be as entertaining.

To explain myself further, take the gore. Being a zombie-based movie, there was a scene where a group of zombies ripped apart a body and it broke into was looked like puzzle pieces (as one was a perfectly straight line cut from shoulder to bottom rib on the other side of the chest) as well as resulting in tons of blood just spraying everywhere. Were that done with today’s mindset, I’m sure they’d have ripped the limbs off and left the torso as well as less blood that was shown. Another great thing was the way they did the explosions: it actually looked real. I find personally that today’s “special effects” are just that, effects and not realistic looking so was a nice change.

Did I mention that it had a sex scene and boob shots? Well it did. As well as a melting penis, which almost made me vomit. It also had very subtle comedy thrown in. There was one section where the girl said “I don’t fucking care” (or something along that line) and the guy replied “I like the way you say fuck”, and she retorted “fuck you” followed by him taking his shirt off.

So as far as an awesome movie goes this had zombies, a sex scene, explosions, blood and zombies. It’s definitely a “guy’s movie” if there ever was one.

Total: 9/10 I dare you to watch this and try not to say “Duuuuuuuude” or “Oh my god!” at least once.

  • Movie: Kickin It Old Skool (Review)

    Date: 2007.08.22 | Posted by | Category: Movies / TV / Books | Response: 0

Now I’m a fan of Jamie Kennedy, but Kickin It Old Skool isn’t his best work by far.

The plot was OK, but wasn’t anything new. I can’t put my finger on the movie at the moment, but I’m certain that I’ve seen the ‘in a coma and wakes up 20 years later’ thing before. Though that being said, it had typical Jamie Kennedy humor with him break dancing. It may just be the suburban geeky white kid in me, but seeing a 30 year old break dancing cracks me up.

The supporting cast was good, a lot of familiar faces. I feel if it wasn’t for them, I’d have given this a lower rating since I’ve already seen Kennedy pull this act before. A few times actually. If you’re looking for something better with the same disturbing character, go watch Malibu’s Most Wanted instead.

Final: 5/10 Watch if it’s on TV or rent it when it moves to the cheap bin.
