Problogger: The Book (Review)
Recently while browsing my local Chapters book store I came across a small soft cover book, among all the ‘big bad books’ on programming, with a strangely familiar name:”ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income“.
For those of you who are unaware, Problogger is one of the leading (if not the leading) blogs about blogging tips. The site is maintained by Darren Rowse, who is likely one of the best educated people on what needs to be done to get a blog off the ground and keep it there. With he updates daily, you can bet I’ve been a subscriber to his RSS for some time.
In this book, Darren (and co-writer Chris Garrett) go through the process of explaining how to set up a blog and make it work. They do a great job of setting forth introductory steps of choosing a topic (Niche), available platforms and how to write to your audience. Some of the more in depth topics that they go into are different kinds of advertising, networking and community building.
Though short (210 pages I believe) they pack it full of tons of information in an easy to read tone. I throughly enjoyed it and recommend it anybody looking to start out blogging, or even those just looking to do it better.
Make some wings, then learn to fly
Ever wanted wings? I know I have. But the true question is: Feathered wings or Dragon wings?
Well now you don’t have to choose, you can make both for just a few bucks.
Head on over to the great How to make a pair of Angel Wings by T0BY @ Instructables . These are very well done and use real feathers. On top of that, they are able to open and look very real (I suppose being real feathers does technically make them real, huh?) This is definitely the coolest way to go if you want any sort of feathered wings, store bought suck.

Check out the awesome How to Make Moving Dragon Wings video by gryphern @ YouTube. These are very cool, especially with the material they used. The fact that they also are able to be expanded on will makes these that much more realistic. Not to mention, these are made tough as nails. Heck, they may even be able to survive trying to fly off the top of a building: But you won’t.
Now that you have your wings, how to do fly? “The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.” - Douglas Adams, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Vampire Game
Vampire game
One of the only shojou manga I have ever read. Started reading not knowing it was shojou since I tend to keep away from them as they are targeted towards a female audience. Since it is a story mainly targeted at females, it has some story elements that I didn’t really like sometimes even though the overall story was really good.
Vampire Game is about the reincarnation of Vampire king, Duzell, who died 100 years ago in a fight with King Phelios who defeated him using a powerful spell that sacrifices the caster. Duzell vows to reincarnate after 100 years to get revenge and destroy the reincarnation of Phelios. Fast forward to the present: The descendants of King Phelios are all fighting for the throne, like you’d expect from any royal family. Princess Ishtar, the main character of the story, is 15 years old and currently first in line to the throne. She is a willful and troublesome princess, always causing trouble for her head bodyguard Darres. She escapes the palace one day as usual causing trouble only to happen upon the reincarnated Vampire King Duzell, who is in the body of a cat. She adopts the cat and promises to help him find the reincarnation of her ancestor Phelios so he can kill him. Through out the 15 volumes they set out to find who in the royal family is the reincarnation of King Phelios; all the while trying to stay ahead of power hungry royals aiming for the throne and Ishtar’s head. Full of political intrigue, Vampire game is a an excellent manga with lots of twits and turns to keep any reader entertained till the very end.

Seto no Hanayome
Seto no Hanayome – The Inland Sea Bride
Nagasumi Michishio, a young middle school student on a trip to visit his grandmother at the beach with his family, is drowning only to be saved by a mermaid. As if almost drowning wasn’t enough of a hassle, according to mermaid law if a person sees mermaids true for they must both be executed. Luckily for Nagasumi the mermaid who saved him, Sun Seto, has decided that in order to save both of them she wants to marry him. Sun’s father, the leader of a merman fish gang, is overly protective of his only daughter and He is constantly trying to kill Nagasumi so that he can “protect” his daughter.
Seto no Hanayome is a pretty good shounen Manga with a good mix of comedy and ecchi material to keep readers happy. There is even a pretty good anime adaption of the Manga that started in April of 2007. Seto no Hanayome is a good Manga that has a solid plot with great art.
Women: Another Piece
of ass the puzzle! By George I think I’ve got it, women like it when you look like crap. Have a really rough looking beard growing in? Keep it. Have a really nice shirt on that you just took out of the laundry basket? Wear it. Haven’t showered in a week? Well, that’s kinda gross. Long story short: Women like you looking horrible. No, hear me out.
Example 1 (Bulk barn girl): Hadn’t shaved in 3 days had a huge pimple on my forehead and was wearing one of the geekiest hats ever. I was really tired and buying 10lbs of candy. I got a phone number and discount on candy.
Example 2 (Holly the Holy): This young lady approached me while I was at the bus stop (because all high class people hang out there). I now haven’t shaved in about 2 weeks, I took the shirt out the hamper, just got off a 12 hour shift, was in a car accident on the way home and now am over full from eating at Denny’s: So I looked and acted like a lifeless hobo (I was even yelling at stray cats. Ok that’s a lie I’m sure they had owners). She introduced herself and asked if she could talk to me about Jesus and since I had 15 minutes before the bus (and she is totally my type minus the whole Jesus thing) I said sure. Apparently God wants this attractive young woman to hold my hand, tell me how soft it is and that I smell like pancakes (which were in my bag). Oh, and that Jesus will let you get away with anything. I gave her my number for something or other, she gave me her cell number.
This brings me to two conclusions which should narrow down what women look for in the opposite sex:
1) Something to fix. It’s not hard to get somebody to shave, wear a clean shirt and get rid of a zit. Nor is it hard to make them commit to something which has very little importance to them anyway (in this case religion) but it ‘looks good on the resume’. Just tiny tweaks.
2) They should have, smell like or BE food. This doesn’t need explaining.
And before it comes up saying I’m just a complete stud of a man and a total babe magnet with a huge…income; My numbers over the last year doubled since I started looking like garbage. Those are some badass results. The code is cracked, just like the women who use it. Boo ya!
Education VS Netucation
A colleague and myself recently had a conversation about what was truly a more effective and useful: Education (through traditional methods such as university classes and organized methods) or netucation (the idea of self-teaching through your own methods and gathering information online from various sources).
Though education has the benefit of a more organized and structured education environment, it’s often costly as well as not completely useful information. Netucation on the other hand, allows the ’student’ go form their own lessons and learn what they want to learn (or what they can find). The biggest flaw with netucation, however, is the fact that it depends on the person and the effort they put into it whether they’re able to education themselves to a competent level.
The topic boils down to the question “Do you want somebody who thinks he can do it, or somebody who has done it?” Just something to think about

Why did you wear that shirt?
That’s the question of this post: Why did you wear your shirt?
I was surfing and some how or another I came across this site. I’m not entirely sure on the situation something about ‘PodCamp’, Anyway, they asked the people why they wore the shirt they did. Some said it was color, only thing clean, advertising, whatever.
Right now I’m wearing it was my brown t-shirt with some blue design on the side. I chose it because A) It was on top B) It didn’t smell and C) I needed to wear a shirt going to the store. I know, really complicated reasons. I’m not sure where I got it from, think it might have been an xmas gift from somebody. Really comfy, I wear it often.
So why are you wearing your current shirt? Don’t forget to try and include a picture
Land of the free and home of the…Zombies?
I’m not one for politics (I honestly don’t even know who my current prime minister is. I think it’s that dude that talked like a robot) but this video made me laugh. The video is so well done if I didn’t know better I’d think it was real. Well I guess I don’t know it’s not real, I’m just assuming that it’s not, knowing how foolish the American government is it wouldn’t be the strangest thing in the world.
Maybe if Canada had more interesting politicians then I’d get interested again. Might start watching Air Farce again, that was always funny. Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah.
