What’s your best customer service story?

Everybody has their ups and downs with customer service, usually down. But how about those times where you get off the phone and think “Wow, that rep was freaking awesome”. Given that I work in a call center, I usually try to leave the customers thinking that as much as possible. But when the shoe is on the other foot, it rarely happens. What is the best customer service that you’ve received? Here’s my latest.

On my way home from work, I had to catch a cab so went to the bank to get some money from the ATM so I can pay him: It was rejected because “Couldn’t process. Contact Service”. Twice. Turns out I had just enough on me to pay the taxi fare ($0.26 cent tip!). Then it was rejected at Wendy’s. When I came home, I decided to give them a call and find out what was going on with my card.

I called up my bank, expecting to have to go through a million automated messages and never get to anybody to help me out. I put in my card number, it told me it couldn’t be processed and the next thing I knew Michelle was on the line. Michelle was awesome. It was 9pm and she sounded like she had just woken up. I asked her what’s going on, and she said my card was put into ‘deposit only’ because fraud thinks that one of the places I used it at might have duplicated it.  It’s not likely, but whatever. I just have to go into a bank and change my PIN on Wed (my next day off). That whole conversation took 5 minutes, tops.

She then asked me if I had the funds to last me until Wednesday, I said I’d just use my VISA the next two days if needed, I should have enough change kicking around for coffee. We then talked about coffee and debating the whole ‘quantity VS quality’ between Tim Hortons and Starbucks. Needless to say, on Wednesday I guess I have to go buy a “signature hazelnut hot chocolate with a double shot of espresso”. I never was very good at debating with females. But it was a great conversation, and is awesome to see a place with real people on the other end of the line. TD, you’re cool. Michelle, you’re fantastic, thanks for the chat.

Post your best customer service story below, the one I think is the best will win $1 via paypal in 2 weeks from today. Cheers!

That Canadian Guy (Glen Foster)

I love Glen Foster, he’s funny as all hell (I’ve actually found myself stealing some of his joke, he’s that good). I’d love to go see him live, that would make my year.

Glen FosterAnyway, he came to mind after a recent incident where I was viewing a court case. Whenever the witnesses would go on the stand they would say the whole “Place your hand on the bible. Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth to the best of your abilities?” thing and every single time I got a smirk and had to keep myself from laughing. And this is Glen’s fault. In one of his acts he says something along the lines of “not everybody believes in the Bible and they’re criminals, they have no conscience. You can tell them to put their hand in this cheese cake and swear to tell the truth.” And because of that, I kept seeing them putting their hands in cheesecake.

Anyway, that’s really all I wanted to say. You can check out Glen on YouTube, he’s a funny guy.

Happy Birthday, Dannilynn Hope Marshall Stern Birkhead :o

Yup, it’s true. The little baby that was the focus of so much media coverage and suffered so much loss in such a little time has turned 1 year old. There are some REALLY cute pictures in US weekly of her with Larry Birkhead too.

Such a cute baby!

To kill or not to kill?

This article annoys me. Not so much just this article, but the whole idea of ‘virtual effects what really happens’. In other words, violent media breeds violence. This is such a load of horse shit. Let’s look at the bare-bone facts first:

According to this source the game Doom (known as one of the first truly ‘violent’ video games) had been downloaded by over 10 million people under under 2 years. Given that it has been out since 1994, it can be easily assumed that the number as increased substantially.
That being said , there have not been 10 million homicides related to that game. In fact, according to a quick Google search of statistics, it seems that if there were 10 million homicides it would require multiple countries to combine their homicide rates. Then multiply it by one hundred. A few times. Stats

If it were really true that video games and movies cause people to kill, one would think that the stats would be quite a bit higher. It’s foolish to say that these things are the sole cause and blame for somebody’s behavior, It is as though saying that people only eat pizza because it was the favorite food of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The media may be an aiding factor at the very least, but surely not the cause. Start finding a different link, maybe hair color. I think that would be a better way to go: ban all brown hair dye. There is a high percent of people with brown hair that go nuts and kill people than there is linked it violent video games.

A normal, healthy teenager doesn’t get off the couch after killing zombies and think “Wow, I wonder if my teacher’s head explodes like that”. It would be nice if the media would start looking up facts before they start saying that video games are causing school shootings. If I have to listen to one more ‘and the young man was a fan of the video game…’ when they’re talking about some sick fuck who mowed down cheerleaders I’m going to go kill somebody.

Ronald 3:16

I was at McDonalds a few minutes ago (because we all know I’m a great chef) and there is an old woman next to me. As the worker hands me my food the old woman says “Make sure to thank the lord before you eat”. Now the first thing that came to my head was “Lady, until Jesus delivers in 30 minutes or less he ain’t getting shit.” I almost said it, but the McEmployee could sense it and shot me daggers. So I just smiled and left. I was so tempted to say it, if I didn’t fear being decked by and old woman, I would have.

Anyway, not a lot else to say besides that. Attempted to make a Blogathon promo to throw up on youtube: Couldn’t stop laughing. I can’t be serious, I really can’t. I hope nobody ever asks me to tell somebody a family member is dead, I’ll end up sending a clown or a barbershop quartette

Zwinky & Self Image

Zwinky
I saw this in a pop-up ad that got through my blocker. I know, this could very well be spammed with adware. In fact, I’m almost certain it is. But I got to create a funky looking dude, so it was worth having to run AdAware after. Woot.

Anyway, check out my Zwinky HERE.

Hehe, ‘Check out my Zwinky‘ sounds so wrong.

Self Image
Anyway, next topic of discussion: Boh3m3 (a user on youtube) & Self Image. He had a video which he talks about self image.

When I think of self image, I think of how you see yourself not how other people see you. How others see you is simply your image. In some cases, you’re presenting yourself as you see yourself. However, more often then not people’s image is only what they’re giving the person. So this usually isn’t personality, it’s looks and how you act firstly. That said, you usually want to show the person what they want to see, true to your self image or not is not even a factor to consider.

So he asked “Can you change other people’s perception of you through a physical change?” Yes and no. You can create a new perception, but not change an existing perception. If you see somebody dressed in a business suit you’re going to perceive them differently then you would were they covered in tattoos wearing leather. That’s barely even a topic of discussion, you’re going to get a first impression of somebody so you can make a judgement of them to figure out how you should relate to them, correct or incorrect all you have to work with is looks and how they act. However, that’s only assuming you don’t know them already. If a friend (or simply somebody you have a general idea of their mind set already) changes their looks, there is little chance that you will change your perception of them, as you already know them as a person, not just a face.

So yeah, if I’m to ask a stranger for the time I’d ask somebody dressed proper and neat over somebody dressed in rags because I would assume a person is a certain way by how they look.
But If a friend were to dye their skin green and grow an orange Mohawk, besides thinking they’ve flown over the co co’s’s nest I’d know they’re still the same person inside and it will go unchanged.
