Planning make perfect!

I find one of the most important things to make weight watchers successful for me is planning. For a while it felt like my whole world revolved around food, always planning what I am  going to eat, checking everything for points, writing everything down. Even now I sometimes feel like my whole world is only about food.

I do spent a few hours a week planning what I am going to make for the week.  This makes it easier to keep on track without having to think about it all the time, I also find that this can help save money. I know eating healthier is not always cheap, making sure I have my daily serving of fruits and veggies can get expensive when they are not in season. Planning my meals for the week allows me to take better advantage of what’s on sale that week and I can save money by buying common ingredients in bulk.

My weekly planning always starts on Thrusdays. Thursday is when the sales flyers come out for sales starting on Friday. I get all my flyers online and they are already booked mark so can find them quickly. Most of my flyers I get from flyerland.ca, great website with tons of flyers.

Once I know what’s on sale I can start planning my meals. I only cook for myself and my boyfriend so there are usually left over. Most the recipes I have serve 4 so I like to pick recipes that I can use for lunch the next day. For example I made BBQ chicken sandwiches with apple slaw from Weight Watchers 101 Best Quick & Easy Recipes. For lunch the next day I sliced up some extra chicken and put it in a wrap with the left over apple slaw. I get bored very easily with food and don’t like eating the same thing for days straight, although it is sometimes unavoidable. So making things I can use in other recipes is important.

Having my meals planned out for the week helps me keep on budget and within my points. I don’t spend money on extra things I don’t need or won’t end up eating, and I don’t end up grabbing a burger on my way home from work because I don’t know what to make.

Tracking made easy

Tracking can be incredibly inconvenient. Having to carry around the paper and pen and dig them out every time I eat something, and of course it is always buried in the bottom of my purse.  I can’t take credit for this idea, my boyfriend actually thought of it, but I am now using my twitter account to track my points. As an added bonus my boyfriend added it to my blog so that it is easy for my to go back and review what I has eaten.  Now whenever I am out and want to grab a snack I can send a quick text message from my phone, which is always easy at hand.

An Experiment in Motivation

By losing your goal, You have lost your way.
Friedrich Nietzsche

Lately I have been having trouble staying motivated with the goals I have set for myself.  I started Weight Watchers over a year ago with fresh determination to lose weight and become a healthier more active person. For the first year things went really well. I lost about 30lbs, was in much better shape, more active and happy. Now is another story. While weight watchers is a great program that works……as long as you are actually doing what your supposed to. After a year I have become slack about tracking, eating healthier and working out. It has become hard to stay motivated and I have started to put the weight back on.

But I refuse to be this person and I refuse to give up.

With encouragement from my boyfriend I have started posting as a way to motivate myself and a more interesting way to track by points and what I am eating. I can also set goals for myself , both short term and long term. And I suppose my long term goals are a good place to start.

My ultimate goal is to lose about 90 lbs. Even saying that is scary and seems unachievable, however worthwhile goals are rarely easy. Smaller goals do make them easier. My first smaller goal is to fit into this great size 16 dress that I want to wear to my sisters wedding in August.

So I have about a month and a half to achieve this, which means I need a plan.

The plan: get back on weight watchers, this means keeping track of my points, eating proper foods and exercising. Also, blogging so that I can be accountable for what I do, both good and bad.

This will be the main theme for my blog. To post things that worked, things that didn’t, recipes I have tried, workouts that I felt went well, my goal and achievements.

My inspiration for today is a chinese proverb

The journey is the reward.
